Cristo El-Salvador

Every day is lovely
But birthdays are special

Every day holds its goodies
But birthdays hold endless bounties

So here’s a tribute to THE ONE with whom we have to do
“For God so loved the world, He sent His only begotten son...”
Manger-born...gather ye; every man with his horn
Herod opposed, still; Bethlehem shook the world

Alas! Son of David
Thou wert birthed to earth
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given...
Manger-born, humblest of all

...and the government shall be upon His shoulder
Humbled that we be lifted
Impoverished for our wealth
Sickened for our health

...and His name shall be called - Wonderful
First born of all humanity
First heir to all divinity
First Prince of all royalty

...and His name shall be called Counselor
Only begotten of the GOD-entity
Before Him is no enmity
Before Him is all verity!

...and His name shall be called - The MIGHTY God
By Him evolved alto, soprano, tenor and bass
By Him all things animate are particulate in mass
By Him every being living stays breathing-live via gas

...and His name shall be called - The EVERLASTING Father
HE alone gave and gives us cause to celebrate CHRISTmas!!

...and His name shall be called  - The PRINCE of Peace
HE alone is the reason for the season!!!

Adios Monsieur MANDELA

When I think of Africa
I think beauty

When I think of Africa
I think grace and talent

When I think of Africa
I think pioneer spirit

When I think of Africa
I think of a rising GIANT

So here’s an ode to her heroes
The ones gone before us
Souls of honor who walked in golden toes
Persons who labored to the plus
They gave us strength to face our apartheid foes

Speaking of apartheid
I think of South Africa
When I think South Africa
I think Nelson Mandela

Here I stand – aghast in wonder
A tad frozen – stopping to ponder

How could one man rise so wise?
How could one man rise to shake the world?
One man born a fledgling just like all and sundry
One man with a heart and veins just like mine
How could one man rise to shake the world?

Spirit of candor
Soul of color
Embodied in valor
By all means, a man of honor

What song can I sing to you sir?
What poem can I write you sir?
What math can equate you to sir?
What logic can I reason by you sir?

A leader I will forever admire
A beacon from out of the bowels of Africa
You beckoned to us all, rousing in us a fire
An entire continent singing - Kumbaya

Till we meet again…adios Monsieur MANDELA
Africa names you her sweetest vanilla

NFF Where Is Keshi's Money

Linesmen checking their lines
Neither poetics nor yard vines
Yarded however, far better than mines

Assistants shan’t assist ants
Neither shall they oblige corrupt grants
They’re just assistants

Whistle blown
Whistle-blower off to a running spree
The one they call Mister Referee

*Game plays right through to ninety minutes…plus a lil’ extra*

Whistle-blower halted
The boys are exhausted

“Green-White-Green”; says the flag of victory tonight

No effort is wasted

****

Hey, Look!
Those NFF buffoons have eloped

Wait a minute!

Where is Keshi’s money?

WARNING!!!

Let’s try something twisted

One day for the thief
Many days for the owner

A stitch in time
Safely deletes nine

Make hay while the moon glooms
Except of course if you’d rather not have your sun for a son

Save pleasantries for last
Reserve courtesies for never
Let’s be rude and irrational forever
Let the yabs do the blast

Take heed for creed
Even the strong and tall utterly fall

Beware and weary for balance
Lest you lose your savvy parlance

Distant futures eventually lose their bragging distance
Elusive pasts then return for prowl on freelance

Accents ascend bad manners
Decents descend fad banners
Presents present a tad tanners

Beware and weary for balance
Lest you lose your savvy parlance

Elusive pasts oft return for prowl on freelance
Distant futures eventually lose their bragging distance

Failure

Failure

'tis a word of a sound with negative allure
If and When happens, it adds some garlic-bittering spice to a cocktail that seemed so pure
Feeling like an illness to which there exists no cure
Shaking even the strong that thought of himself as to a stand(ce); so sure

Failure

Its practical experience, of however crude lustre
Hurts like a lady with bleedily-broken manicure
Feeling the pains of another with infested pedicure
Sad to say to worse pains this is a likely overture

Failure

It comes with power of a similitude as to that a witch did conjure
Thick-black and with such an oppresive power of admirable grandeur
One cannot but wonder of how and when such evil did occur
Or how a singular being, yet human, could such an enormous power procure
Thoughts or victimology of the resultancy, practically too great to endure

Failure

Truth 'n Youth

I am young

I am sweet
A pleasure to be with

Deep-in-thought
A mind of amazing capacities

On the flipside…

I can be vile
Embittered as bile

I very well can do crime
Cleanse me now by brine

I am young
Endless streams of energy flood my veins

Many before me have come
Many more before me have gone

My youth pants to consume me
These energies; they seek to overwhelm me

My youth, the world can raze
By my energies; earth is set ablaze

Yet…

I am weak
Thus, I reach to you

In my weakness ‘n slender; I surrender

Things We Do

The things we do
The words in frames we say
The whereabouts we are found at
The gifts, the presents we give and receive

The ones, the moments and more we come to cherish

The what's, why's, how's and where's

Questions that frame us
Competencies ne'er the same for us
Capabilities either neither; none cans't maim us

Our placidity
Our flaccidity
Our frailty

Our divinity; our pew
Our humanity; our hue

Our strength

Prince With G.O.D.

I once saw a movie
In it, the main act discovered he had cancer of the spine
I watched; scene after scene
As his body cried under restrictive subjection
All owing to the cancerous ailing wallowing in his spine

There once was a period in my life
Pessimism beclouded my judgments
Negativity encompassed my thoughts
Depression had me bound

The days ahead seemed non-existent
Far too many troubles stared me in the face at the then present

Then I came to the turning point
The point when the meaning of my name dawned on me
Of course I always had known this
This was more than different

‘Israel’ - ‘Prince with God’
It finally soaked up every iota of my being

There is no argument against the fact
As far as rendering the very best justice to my heaven-ordained assignment to humanity is concerned
There’s none but this one fellow who’s most suitably capable for the job

I have the support and backing of HIS EXCELLENCY
G.O.D. – Commander-in-Chief of all elements existent, be they physical or metaphysical

HE fabricated every inch of my spine
HE is the author of my end, beginning and prime
Scripture tells me I’m the branch; HE, the vine
And verily all universe knows HE epitomes divine

G.O.D. is for me
Why would any drunken dreamer wanna test me?

Amigos! Me sef wonder oh!

TWALE! ....[#theOverflo']

The serenity of the piano
The soothing rhythm of the guitar(s)

The spirit of the saxophone
Blend-in-tone by soul of the xylophone

Exclamations of the trumpet
Proclamations of the talking drum

The oriki that burps from the konga
The commanding metronome of the drums
(drumset)

Some sultry vibrato
Plus some revolutionary falsetto

Stage all set

Come join me KABIYESI for the OLU-of-ORUN
Come join me give BABA a biggy-mighty TWALE!

CHINUA of AFRICA

I remember when I first heard of the book
Sad to say I never got to read it until late last year

"Hard to believe"; I can hear you echo from afar
Particularly for a "reader-fellow" like me
I read every other book on every shelf but this

"Things Fall Apart"
One of many other titles

The name always rang a million bells
One of Nigeria's finest...blazing 'em trails

Every candle burns with a flame
Every flame gets tossed of the wind

This candle did burn with a flame
The kind that spits grammar like Gamma

A linguist like no other
Novelist of covet like Rivera

Out of pitch-hue Africa rose an ICON
a LEGEND by every standard
a BEACON in every regard

Your soul rises to the great beyond
The universe sings you her sweetest verse

"CHINUA ACHEBE my beloved!
My sun, my son; thou didst do me proud";
Mother Africa mourns her favored son

You rocked Grammar Land
You brought honor to our land

Adieu Papa
Your works forever remain with us

Let's Talk 'BASICS'

Novels are fun
Autobiographies are true

Family is golden
Friends are a blessing

Success is sweet
Challenge is healthy

Thru' it all
Thru' my everyday

This I know of 'ME'

Music keeps me going
Poetry keeps me breathing

A Word With You Please...

I’ve heard talks about leadership
I’ve heard talks on followership

I have read about leadership
Just as I’ve read about followership

I’ve read about fatherhood
I’ve seen and been thru’ childhood

I have ideologies about fatherhood
I have experienced first-hand…childhood

What am I driving at?
Where am I headed precisely?

My ‘writership’
Your ‘readership’

My ‘writerhood’
Your ‘readerhood’

It’s not about me
It's not about poetry
It’s about us

Without us
There’d be no papyrus

i do POETRY

There's something I love to do
There's something I was created to do
There's something I most leisurely do
There's something I can't help but do

The name you call it, same I call it
We call it...they call it POETRY

Only a lil’ while longer

Coudé.Cougar

Trying to make this work
Quit the act, be less a jerk

Swung off into thick jungle

Figs, twigs and digs of bizarre
Precisely what we are

The earlier the better

So permit me with pleasure to bar
Car afar, lest a drift too far

RevV Thine Engines

So far, so good
Thus far have we come
Hungry for more tho' we got some

What holds beats 'em scolds
These molds; beets 'n folds

Thus far have we come
Thus far are we charged

God save the morrow
We ain't gonna laze
Mos def, we gonna blaze

You ain't seen nothing yet
(in Pa’s distinct vocals)

ANN [Artificial Neural Networks]

I've got a brain
Very much sane
You've got the same
So has Jane

Amazing capacities
Mind blowing abilities
Endless functions

Simulate that, shall we?

Make clay, sake say

#itsALLaboutPOETRY!

What canst I do?
Whence canst I go?
All I need do is ‘pen-to-paper’

Who said ‘money makes the world go round’?
They must’ve derailed a great deal

Music keeps me going
Poetry keeps me breathing

Forgive my uni-direction
Yield to my bias

Life is beautiful
…‘nd ‘tis all about POETRY

#random

A lil’ here, a lil’ there
So my mind drifts here and there
Swiftly swayed by the winds
You just might wanna tweet; “#random”

My world ‘n yours
Multiple differences in intercourse

My battle; self-preservation
My hustle; self-construction
Your struggle; self-imposition

On the morrow; I win
…’nd this no longer will read; “random”

#i-Pray!

First things first
At the wake of dawn

In the wee of day
I get in my knees and pray
